Xiaomi Redmi Y1 out as recent research made it known to the world that Xiaomi Smartphone Company is currently pulling weight in the Indian smartphone market. To the extent that they are even in contention on who is the best with Samsung as the top smartphone maker in India. Report also claims that no other Chinese smartphone maker has ascertained success like Xiaomi, because their smartphone offers nothing but the very best for their respective users.
Before now, most of you should have known that Xiaomi deals on the low-cost and mid-range smartphones segment. But it is no slouch in the premium segment either which has proved its prowess in that segment with the Mi Mix 2, the innovative successor to the revolutionary Mi Mix. Mi Mix 2 was the first bezel-less smartphone to be widely available across the world.
After an impressive start to life, now Xiaomi has come up with a new series altogether. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is the better spec’d one. Unlike its more premium smartphones in the likes of Redmi Note4, Mi A1 and the Mi Max 2, respectively. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 was entirely built out of plastic, except for the display . The all-plastic build keeps the weight down to a mere 153 grams. That is quite commendable for a smartphone that has 5.5 inch display and big 3,000 mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 smart phone has a curved back which is been located in the edges, and they are said to help maintain a good grip on the phone while using it. The 7.7mm thickness is at par for a good smartphone these days. It strikes a good balance between handling and a good battery life. The phone is 153mm tall and 76.2mm wide. These dimensions make for a decently ergonomic phone.
At the back side, it was discovered that two thin chrome strips run the entire width of the smartphone. While the camera with its flash is situated at the top left corner of the phone. The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 smartphone fingerprint scanner is easily accessible and it is located in the middle of the backside. Rest of the back is bear with only the Mi logo been printed along with regulatory information, on the bottom.
On the other hand, the top edge of the phone has the 3.5mm headphone jack, the secondary noise cancellation camera and an IR blaster. The IR blaster is a staple of all Xiaomi smartphones which works beautifully with almost all electronic devices. You can locate the micro-USB charging port at the bottom edge of the phone, also flanked by two speaker grills on either side. But only the right side holds the speaker. The left one packs the primary microphone, while the right edge of the phone carries the power button and the volume rocker. The left edge contains the SIM tray which supports 2 nano-SIMs and a micro-SD card.
As many will also expect it to be, the front of the smartphone is packs the 5.5 inch HD display. The touch-capacities navigation buttons below the display are. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 smartphone earpiece sits above the display, and also it is been surrounded with the 16 megapixels selfie camera and proximity & ambient light sensors on one side and notification LED and Selfie Light on the other. Having been packaged with a 5.5 inch HD display, it also gets a reasonably bright view which is about around 450 nits. The display is easily view-able outdoors. Even though the display is “only” HD with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, it is a good-looking display. Even though it is bit more reflective than many would have loved it to be, it is easily view-able outdoors.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 smart phone also packs in an ambient light sensor, which is a rarity at this price point, which works well to adjust the display’s brightness according to the available light during our usage. The display of Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is easily visible even at the lowest brightness level, which is good news for people who love to read at night. Above all, we found out that they made provision for ‘Reading Mode’ which cuts out the blue light being emitted from the display. This is a very useful feature, it can be turned on & off manually, or it can be scheduled to automatically turn on & off during a specified time interval.
