America races against time to find replacement for Sebastián Cáceres

With only two days left in the Liga MX transfer window, clubs are rushing to complete their final signings. One of the most watched teams is Club América, which is urgently seeking a replacement for Sebastián Cáceres. The Uruguayan defender left for Celta de Vigo, leaving a significant gap in the defense. América's board is targeting two foreign options: free agent David Alaba and Bahia's Santiago Ramos Mingo. According to journalist César Luis Merlo, América has submitted a formal offer for Ramos Mingo. Bahia bought him for €4.35 million in January 2026, and his market value has since tripled to €12 million. Bahia will likely demand at least €10 million. América received €8 million for Cáceres, making the deal tight. Alaba, though a big name, demands high wages. Another option is Alejandro Gómez from Tijuana, who does not occupy a non-Mexican-trained slot. América currently has seven such slots filled, with the eighth reserved for Carlos Álvarez. With only Ramón Juárez and Miguel Vázquez as natural center-backs, América must act fast before the window closes on September 11.
